“La Practica”.
Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.
This is an open practica for dancers of all levels with a special welcome extended to beginner and intermediate dancers.
From 3pm to 6pm.

Our special guest DJ is Ms Patricia(Pat) Petronio from Tango Salon Adelaide.

Pats Background:

When Robert Youngson & Patricia Petronio from Tango Salon in Adelaide named their milonga ‘Comme Il Faut’ just 4 years ago, it was very much a case of their belief in “how a milonga should be”.

The literal translation from the French is “How Things Are Done,” but according to Pat, that doesn’t begin to describe it.

” It’s about manners, keeping your cool under provocation.
It’s that very rare quality in today’s self-promoting, blame-shifting, tell-all society….
……a quality known as class”.

From many visits to Buenos Aires Pat and Robert have come to embrace the style of milonga that they believe to be typical of the ‘Mecca of tango’.

One guiding influence has been the DJ culture of Buenos Aires. Pat’s music is largely the best of the Golden Age, with playlists influenced by the likes of Carlos Rey, Mario Orlando, and Dany Borelli.

The Melbourne Milonguero highlight of the year!

Pure Social Tango all weekend……..!

Organised by the Melbourne Tango Community, this will be a superb weekend of pure milonguero social tango and relaxation.

Incredible good value, special milonguero ambience, beautiful heritage dance venue “The Palais”

In order to create this event for your Pleasure and Participation, the organisers need your booking information and confirmation ASAP!! Cut off date for bookings 25th Nov.

In conjunction with Rod and Belinda from Project NFT we are hosting a Photo Competition which includes a “People’s Choice” award. On Wednesday the 16th November all the work will be displayed for you to come, view and register your vote. The “Awards Night” will be on Friday 18th.

We are very honoured to have Mr Bryan Dawe as head of the judging panel. Bryan Dawe is best known as an Australian writer, comedian and political satirist, but is also known for his work as a songwriter, photographer and social activist.

He has been a regular collaborator of fellow satirist John Clarke in the form of mock interviews, currently appearing on the ABC TV for “The 7.30 Report”.

The event will consist of three categories:
- Best Tango Dance Photo
- Best Collection of Tango Photos
- Most interesting Tango Photo

This is a non-profit competition with the $5 per entry cost per category being distributed as the prizes.

John Rownan is originally from Dublin but learned to dance tango mainly from extended trips to Buenos Aires, taking classes in all styles of tango with traditional milonguero and Tango Salon maestros to more modern Tango Nuevo styles. He enjoys blending traditional movements with modern and feels it is important to understand the aspects of each of these to develop your own style that is comfortable, in balance, rythmical and most importantly enjoyable.

In 2009 John moved to Berlin. From October 2009 - early 2011, John visited many tango scenes across the globe, often DJing and teaching in schools as far apart as Moscow and Hong Kong.

John regularly DJs at Tango Marathons and Festivals across Europe such as Amsterdam Festivalito, Florence Tango Festival, Brussels Marathon, Budapest Marathon, and the Dublin Festivalito, Dublin Marathon and Berlin Oktoberfiesta.

Kylie says: “When putting together a set for a “neuvo milonga” I think it’s very important to pay attention to a lot of the same principles of DJing a traditional or Golden Age milonga. I still like to use tandas & cortinas, I like my tandas to be coherent with the same orchestra or similar style or mood. There still needs to be a sense of flow”.
