Get Started in the Basic Tango class…

The group classes are held on a casual attendance basis.
No need to book and no need to bring a partner.
You may start on any week you like. You may attend as often as you like.

The Basic Tango Classes commence at 7.00pm sharp on both Mondays and Wednesdays and cover a syllabus of techniques, which create the basis of all tango dancing.

Melbourne Latin Festival is a very big event with 1000 salsa , bachata, zouk and latin dancers participating, and featuring the very best of international Salsa Performers.
Each year the Melbourne Tango Community holds a Milonga during the exciting opening night festivities, alongside the enormous Salsa Room.

FEATURING the fabulous dancers of the Melbourne Tango Dance scene. Come and show the salsa dancers how to dance with Soul and Style !! All Melbourne Milongueros must come and represent the Melbourne Tango Community!

They teach Canyengue at the “Escuela Argentina de Tango” in the Galeria Pacifica, Buenos Aires.

Nelson says:
“It is known in Buenos Aires, that without such knowledge of this dance one is unable to progress forward in the tango itself. To understand Canyengue and
its music is to understand the Tango”.

Nelson is a resident of Buenos Aires and is of a Uruguayan descent, but has also lived in Australia.

His passion and knowledge for the very early tango “Canyengue,” and its unique music is incomparable..

He will be accompanied in the workshop by his partner Liz, who works and performs with Nelson in Buenos Aires.

Nelson has gathered a tremendous knowledge on the background of Canyengue. Nelson says: “It is known in Buenos Aires, that without such knowledge of this dance one is unable to progress forward in the tango itself. To understand Canyengue and its music is to understand the Tango”.

He has worked with Buenos Aires notables such as: Marta Anton and Gallego Manuel,Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau, Herrera Enrique, and Laura Collavini.

Nelson teaches Canyengue at Escuela de tango in Galerias Pacifico and gives performances in Milongas across Buenos Aires, recently his show at La Viruta..

Nelson will be in Australia during March will give one workshop in Melbourne at Sidewalktango studio on Saturday March 10th 1.30pm-3.00pm

The workshop will be followed by “La Practica” 3.00pm-4.30pm

The workshop is for intermediate dancers or beginners with at least six months experience and will include:
The first movement, the beginning (or Enganche) The embrace,(Abrazo) and the steps (Cunita inside and outside) plus explanation of the music….

Our special guest DJ is Ms Patricia(Pat) Petronio from Tango Salon Adelaide.

Pats Background:

When Robert Youngson & Patricia Petronio from Tango Salon in Adelaide named their milonga ‘Comme Il Faut’ just 4 years ago, it was very much a case of their belief in “how a milonga should be”.

The literal translation from the French is “How Things Are Done,” but according to Pat, that doesn’t begin to describe it.

” It’s about manners, keeping your cool under provocation.
It’s that very rare quality in today’s self-promoting, blame-shifting, tell-all society….
……a quality known as class”.

From many visits to Buenos Aires Pat and Robert have come to embrace the style of milonga that they believe to be typical of the ‘Mecca of tango’.

One guiding influence has been the DJ culture of Buenos Aires. Pat’s music is largely the best of the Golden Age, with playlists influenced by the likes of Carlos Rey, Mario Orlando, and Dany Borelli.
