Australian Dance Awards 2009
Last year Dianne Heywood-Smith and David Backler from Sidewalktango participated in a contemporary dance project “Girls on Boys”, produced by Dancehouse Theatre, Carlton. The season was a sell out success and the show has been nominated for an award in the catagory : “Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance”, in the 2009 Australian Dance Awards.
Five female choreographers each created a solo dance for a male dancer. Performed in the round, this vibrant collection consists of a diverse and surprising combination of dance forms and content.
An autonomously created cohesive musical composition overlays the five individual works and was presented to the performances for the first time on the eve before opening night.

“Tango Noir” milonga at Sidewalktango
Welcome to the night of ”Tango Noir”
Every First and Third Friday of the Month
Starting 8.00pm and going through to late night….”Tango Noir” .
An intimate and stylish venue, with an authentic milonga:
Milonga: A tango dance party……
In our over busy lives, with no time for the imagination, and no time for ourselves and others, we have ” the milonga”. Yes, it is more than just a dance.
There is something deeper: a motionless, fathomless, dark ocean of time. A bittersweet nostalgia and awareness for the passing nature of all life and things.
Then the “mythical, oft-mentioned, but indefinable experience of the tango embrace”. The passion, the “connection” and the special sense of a “secret inside”.
Resonating with rhythm, melody, artistry, subtlety and touch. Enraptured by the encounter, the pleasure, humour, respect and poetry. An attraction, a curiosity, a pastime, a meditation, and deadly serious good fun…
”Tango Noir” at 327 Swan St Richmond.
Fully Licensed Venue.
Late night snacks available $5.00
