David and Mia at SIDEWALKTANGO specialize in teaching and dancing social style “Tango Argentino”.
Classes are held in “Salon” “Milonguero” and other stylisations, with all due credit and respect given to the history and culture of the milongueros of Buenos Aires .
We aim to guide people to feel the true experience of connection via an improvised social dance. Based on authentic Buenos Aires music and the culture of the “milonga”.
Sidewalktango organise for dancers to participate at three different levels:
1. Classes and Workshops: for learning and understanding the art, craft and technique of Tango, plus the important culture and codes ( or etiquette) of tango social dancing.
2. Practicas: the informal guided social dance practice where the real dancing begins.
A chance to practice and learn what has been taught in class. Informal social atmosphere, Teachers are on the floor ready to answer any questions and guide your dance technique and solve problems on the embrace, posture, dynamics, or any other issues .
Before venturing into the “Milonga” dancers need to hone their dance skills for many hours, learn how to actually dance what they have been taught in class, and alongside this, to learn the culture, codes and etiquette of tango. This is the function of the Practica – “Learning how to Dance”
Teaching and practicing at a “Milonga” goes deeply against the “Milonguero code” and so the Practica exists for all levels of dancers to express themselves until they have practiced enough to be ready for the realm of the “Milonga”
David and Mia will invite you as their student to attend the Milonga when they know that you are ready, and have graduated through to the standard required as a “Bailarin de tango”
Sidewalktango holds “Practica “ at the Polish Club every Thursday from 7.30 to 9.30pm . All Welcome.
3. Milongas:
“A deep, dark, quiet ocean of timelessness…”
In our busy lives, with no time for the imagination, and no time for ourselves or others, we have “the milonga”. Tango is more than “just a dance”.
There is something deeper: a motionless, fathomless, dark ocean of time. A bittersweet nostalgia and awareness of the passing nature of life and all things.
The mythical, oft-mentioned, but indefinable experience of the tango embrace… The awareness of connection, and the special sense of a secret inside… Resonating with rhythm, melody, artistry, subtlety and touch.
An encounter with pleasure, humour, fun, respect and poetry. A pastime, a curiosity, a passion, a meditation.
