Structured Courses , with set levels guiding dancers in a syllabus for advancement through techniques and experience. Taking each dancer through a process of creative and cultural discovery and dance discipline at their own pace.

Beginners Course at Sidewalktango:
The classes are run with everyone partnered . During the class all partners are rotated on a regular basis so that everyone dances with everyone else. This gives everyone the benefit of maximum opportunity to learn and experience tango dance.
Come and take a no pressure “Try Out” class before committing to a course . Online offers are available to couples for booking and paying in advance with a discounted rate. After your trial class, you and your partner can choose to join a foundation membership five week block payment membership . ($140p.p. five week course) Other types of membership are available please talk to us at the venue or give us a call to discusss membership questions.
Easy ways to get started in Tango
- Join a “Try Out” Class –Couples Online Special Offer $15p.p. If you enjoy your tango class, you can continue learning by joining ongoing level 1 and 2 classes with foundation member block bookings of five week terms.

2. Alternatively – take a “Trial three week membership” Couples Special Online Offer $120 per couple Then, with this experience under you belt, you can follow up with for Level 1 and 2 Block foundation membership bookings of five week terms.

3. Progress through levels One and Two at your own pace. When you are happy to advance, you and a partner take an assessment and advance to the next levels (Level 3/4 Transition to Tango)

LEVELS and SYLLABUS taught at Sidewalktango – Beginners to Professional
Levels 1 and 2 – Beginners introductory tango. No experience needed. Starting with easy movement and rhythm in an embrace, advancing to tango style and form in ochos, giros, voleos. A gentle, yet exciting and thorough introduction to milonguero dance and cultural conventions and lifestyle. Bookings are taken for a “class balance partner couple” in five week term blocks. Levels 3 and 4 – Transition to Tango – Solid development of basic structures . Understanding the movement conventions underlying the conversation of lead and follow. Deepening technique and feeling for practice of fundamentals. Tango elements: Embrace, Posture, Movement, Tango Structure and Musicality. Tango Forms: Ochos, Giros, Voleos, La crusada Tango iconic effects: Barridas, Enlazada, Empuje, Sacadas, Ganchos, Enganchadas, Rhythms: Tango, Vals and Milonga Completion of levels 1 and 2 and evaluation is a prerequisite to joining and attendance with “class balance partner”
Level 5 and 6 – Bailerin de Tango – Access available for Solos and Couples Dancers –
Freestyle Tango at a level appropriate for dancing at the milongas. Close and Flexible Embrace Styles, Rigorous technical training and energy across all aspects of musicality, footwork, abrazo, adornos, axis, milonguero figures, as required for moving into Intermediate level
Level 7 and 8 – Intermediate Dancers – High level dancers who can lead/follow all sacadas with confidence, excellent understanding of the cross/parallel systems, able to use and understand different embraces, complex improvised combinations, excellent dissociation, able to lead/follow colgada and volcada. Awareness respect and cultural connection with partners and all dancers at the milongas. Awareness of ones own and ones partner’s axis and musicality. Complete control of floor craft .

THURSDAYS – 6.00pm TANGO at Polish Club Hall, New Town, Hobart
Class is followed by THURSDAY PRACTICA 7.30PM TO 9.00PM – A chance to practice what has been taught and also to just simply dance. Enjoy a light supper and glass of vino and discuss all things “estilo tango” with your fellow tangueros.
Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned dancer, you’ll find a welcoming space to grow, connect, and express yourself – within a practice culture guided by the traditional milonguero cultural values of awareness, consent, and respect.
